Description
This remarkable pipe is a faithful replica of the oldest known wooden pipe discovered in Gdańsk, dating back to approximately 1750. Its story began in 2015 during the International Pipe Smokers' Day celebrations, when renowned Gdańsk tobacconist Piotr Jakubowski organized another Gathering of Pipe Enthusiasts, featuring a slow pipe smoking competition. Our workshop had the honor of producing the competition pipes, which—at the initiative of Edward Zimmerman—were created as replicas of this extraordinary historical artifact.
The project paid tribute to the rich history of Polish pipe making and to the work of Edward Zimmerman, author of the article "On the Oldest Wooden Pipe Found in Poland and a False Relic" (Kalumet, May/June 1994), documenting the discovery of this unique pipe.
A decade after the original event, we are pleased to reintroduce this historic model to our collection. The pipe faithfully reproduces the shape and proportions of the original bowl and, in this version, is handcrafted entirely from black oak. Its one-piece construction contains no plastic components, emphasizing both authenticity and traditional craftsmanship.
Each pipe is supplied with a fabric pouch and an elegant presentation box. The product gallery also includes archival photographs from the Gathering of Pipe Enthusiasts and the slow smoking competition, captured by Mirosław Jurgielewicz for Kalumet.pl.
