Black oak (morta / bog-wood) is a wood of oaks that have been in the ground or under water
for at least several hundred years, soaking the cell walls with insoluble minerals.
Oak wood contains tannins that react with iron salts present in water or earth, changing the color
of the wood to gray-black to navy-black. The material is difficult to reach and very troublesome
in seasoning and processing.
