Ryszard Filar is a respected pipe maker from Przemyśl—a city long associated with the Polish tradition of pipe making. He began his journey in the craft in the 1950s, apprenticing under the legendary Przemyśl master Ludwik Walat. Since the 1980s, he has run his own workshop, where he handcrafts pipes from high-quality briar.
His pipes are valued for their careful workmanship, excellent smoking properties, and classic design. Pipes signed with the Filar name are sought after both by collectors and experienced pipe smokers.
Ryszard Filar’s work represents an important part of the contemporary tradition of pipe making in Przemyśl. His achievements and craftsmanship were recognized, among others, with the title of Pipe Smoker of the Year 2021, awarded to individuals who have made a special contribution to pipe culture
